So, the day finally dawned...it was time to go to the Fairytale Festival 2019!
So here’s my costume! Ta-daaaaaaaaa!!!
I was sooo excited to see “my” tent for the day and the whole set-up!
The first thing I saw was the sign directing people where to go and what time the storytelling shows would be at.
This was great to have, as it allowed people to decide what time suited them, so they could decide on their plan for the festival and come back to hear stories when it suited them.
All of the children had been given a map and a list of events that were happening on the day. It was like a little treasure hunt for them!
They could make wands, crowns, learn about wildlife in a forest school, go on a train, meet lots of fairytale characters dotted around the grounds of Woodstock and even see some reptiles. With all of those things to do, I don’t know how they managed to fit Storytime in, but every seat in the tent was filled for each of the shows, and, because of the open sides of the tent, even more people could stand outside and peep in. It was so lovely.

Of course, I was given a throne again this year....
What gorgeous grounds Woodstock garden are. Wow, it’s breathtaking to walk amongst all those truly ancient trees, breathing all that fresh air. You really can feel the fairies and earth spirits in these types of places. The back drop to my storytelling session were some massive, lush and whispering trees, it was inspiring for my stories, which mostly took place in the “Enchanted Wood”.
I could see during the course of the day, how the children were effected by this magic too.
I did 3 fantastic shows looking out at those trees...And then...the rain came! Oh how it started to rain at about 3.30pm! The wind had already (annoyingly!) made sure that I was kept on my toes rescuing various items, but we had hoped that the rain would stay well away.
How would I describe that rain? Driving? Yes, I think driving rather than pouring works best, because it was really coming down in sheets. And that’s when the biggest crowd gathered under our tent, and I think, had the most amount of fun! We laughed, we danced and we tried to make light of the rain while kids sheltered under umbrellas and plastic ponchos in their princess dresses and costumes.

I wasn’t looking forward to the trek back to my car with all of my stuff, so you can imagine my delight when 2 knights in shining armour (well, kind of!) appeared on a steed (well, a golf cart!) to give me a lift to my car. Now that’s what I call helpfulness, thank you gentlemen.
And once again, I felt truly blessed that I have this amazing job (that doesn’t feel like a job!) as a storyteller.
