Sarah Tully; Performer, Storyteller, Artist, Teacher....
Sarah Tully is an Award Winning Children's Performer, Storyteller, Artist & Teacher....
kids party in Dublin, kids party in Galway! Unique Childrens Entertainers Dublin!
Having graduated from UCD with an arts degree in English and Irish, Sarah Tully began her career as a Facilities Manager in a very busy Dublin firm.
Looking for a complete change from the corporate world, she made the big decision to resign. She travelled to Madrid, Spain and achieved a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Here, she realised her true passion was with teaching, particularly teaching young children.
Considering continuing her studies to become a primary school teacher, she secured a temporary substitute teaching job in a Dublin school.
During her time there, she taught her 5th class students some simple yoga, breathing and mindfulness techniques. She, along with her students, noticed that, on the days that they did their “stretches and breathing”, they were more focused, relaxed and, above all else, kinder to one another.
It became apparent to her that, the more children that used these stress-relieving techniques on a regular basis, the easier life might be for them.
And so, in 2009, she decided to set up her own business teaching Relaxation and Mindfulness to children.
Sarah facilitated her workshops in various venues, including festivals such as Electric Picnic.
As time went on, she noticed that many of the children she worked with lacked a certain creative flow and imagination. Their attention spans did not last very long and she would often observe anxiety, restlessness and a lack of confidence in them.
In an increasingly busy world, filled with screens and distractions, children seemed to have very little time to spend using their own imaginations; playing, creating and having simple childish fun.
She remembered how, as a child, she would often read a book or engage in creative play with stories when she needed some quiet time or was trying to work her way through challenges in life. She recalled, too, how singing, performing and going to the theatre as a child would often ignite sparks of joy and creativity within her heart.
She decided to make it her mission to bring creativity, confidence and joy to the children of Ireland, in whatever way she could.
She taught herself to face paint, balloon model, glitter tattoo, and then designed her own website. Adding to her repertoire, songs and music played on her guitar, along with creative drama-based games, she travelled throughout the country entertaining at parties and events.
Drawing on her love of books and stories, she began Storytelling, using puppets, props and magic.
To add to the overall magic of her shows, she always performs in unique costumes that she has created, adding different characters to her shows, from fairies to Disney princesses and queens.
During her Storytelling, she welcomes audience interaction and asks the children to help create their own stories, encouraging imagination and creativity, taking children on a journey where fairies, dragons and unicorns are waiting to meet them.
Depending on the theme of an event, her stories can contain important messages for the children, approached in a light-hearted, fun way. Some themes have included, environment and wildlife, inclusion and equality, kindness and anti-bullying, health and nutrition.
Her work with the libraries is a particular passion. She loves to spread the joy of books to children, teaching them that the libraries are amazing and fun places to visit.
Facilitating workshops and events, not only in Dublin libraries, but also libraries nationwide, she has entertained at many of their festivals and events, even performing on Mobile library buses. She has also designed Book-themed crafts events, where the children learn about a book, it’s author and finish by creating a craft, based on what they’ve learnt. For adults also, she has taught Mindfulness, as well as English classes.
For the much younger members of the library, Sarah transforms into “Sarah Sparkles” for Toddler Time events, giving the babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers an exciting introduction to the libraries.
With the help of Sarah’s cheeky bird, Wally, the children discover the books in the library, learning how to listen, turn the pages, look at the pictures and share the range of adventures and emotions that the characters convey. Using carefully selected music and songs, the children sing and dance along with Sarah, developing memory and language skills, as well as coordination skills, all vital for their rapidly-growing minds.
Sarah has been a regular entertainer at the bedsides of sick children for the Saturday Club at Temple Street Children’s Hospital. She has worked alongside the Play Specialist team at events designed to teach serious issues in a fun way, such as nutrition and health. But also, to make special occasions, such as Halloween, fun for those that need to remain in hospital.
For adults, she has taught Relaxation, Mindfulness and English (TEFL). She has also taught English lessons to Corporate clients, their spouses and children since 2014.
In 2019 Sarah was a winner of the TOYP Award (Ten Outstanding Young People) for Cultural Awareness and was shortlisted for a National Award, with thanks to JCI Dublin Southside and JCI Ireland
